The neutral curve for stationary disturbances in rotating disk flow for power-law fluids

چکیده
This paper is concerned with the convective instabilities associated with the boundary-layer flow due to a rotating disk. Shear-thinning fluids that adhere to the power-law relationship are considered. The neutral curves are computed using a sixth-order system of linear stability equations which include the effects of streamline curvature, Coriolis force and the non-Newtonian viscosity model. Akin to previous Newtonian studies it is found that the neutral curves have two critical values, these are associated with the type I upper-branch (cross-flow) and type II lower-branch (streamline curvature) modes. Our results indicate that an increase in shear-thinning has a stabilising effect on both the type I and II modes, in terms of the critical Reynolds number and growth rate. Favourable agreement is obtained between existing asymptotic predictions and the numerical results presented here. 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

AXIAL FLOW IN A ROTATIONAL COAXIAL RHEOMETER SYSTEM 11: HERSCHEL BULKLEY MODEL
Following recent works of several authors like Huilgol, Bhattacharya etd. and Javadpour et al., this paper is to contribute further to the literature of axial flow in a rotational coaxial rheometer. We consider axial flow of Herschel Bulkley mode1 between two concentric cylinders with the inner one rotating, while the outer cylinder is held stationary. An attempt has been made to direct the...
متن کاملBoundary Layers and Heat Transfer on a Rotating Rough Disk
The study of flow and heat transfer over rotating circular disks is of great practical importance in understanding the cooling of rotatory machinery such as turbines, electric motors and design and manufacturing of computer disk drives. This paper presents an analysis of the flow and heat transfer over a heated infinite permeable rough disk. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the elliptic Nav...
متن کاملMechanical Stresses in a Linear Plastic FGM Hollow and Solid Rotational Disk
In this paper, an analytical solution for computing the plastic & linear plastic stresses and critical angular velocity in a FGM hollow & solid rotating disk is developed. It has been assumed that the modulus of elasticity and yield strength were varying through thickness of the FGM material according to a power law relationship. The Poisson's ratio were considered constant throughout the thick...

In this paper, a semi-analytical solution for magneto-thermo-elastic problem in an axisymmetric functionally graded (FG) hollow rotating disk with constant thickness placed in uniform magnetic and thermal fields with heat convection from disk’s surfaces is presented. Solution for stresses and perturbation of magnetic field vector in a thin FG rotating disk is determined using infinitesimal theo...
متن کاملGeneral relativistic hydrodynamic flows around a static compact object in final stages of accretion flow
Dynamics of stationary axisymmetric configuration of the viscous accreting fluids surrounding a non-rotating compact object in final stages of accretion flow is presented here. For the special case of thin disk approximation, the relativistic fluid equations ignoring self-gravity of the disk are derived in Schwarzschild geometry. For two different state equations, two sets of self-consistent an...
